Native is better, come taste the difference!
A family tradition since 1899
The Jaswell's invite the public to visit their farm, anytime during regular hours throughout the season. When participating in any of our pick your own activities, there is not usually a need to make reservations. We do recommend calling ahead for current supply and picking conditions. During varying seasons we offer special group tours. Though not are all guided, it is a great opportunity for your special group to experience our farm in an educational way. We feel it is essential to educate our youth about the importance of farms in our community. After all, “No Farmers = No Food!!” Education made fun is the motivation behind our guided tours.
Jaswell’s Farm offers berry picking to groups of 20 or less during the weekday hours of the summer. Groups must be qualified child care or enrichment centers and each child is required to pay for and pick at least one container. Each group can schedule a time slot to come and pick their own berries for a group rate. Chaperones can pick with the children for the same rate. There are no formal tours during the summer, but each group will be met and instructed on the berry picking procedures. We will explain the rules of the field and the correct ways of picking and then allow you to go find your berries!
Jaswell’s Farm invites groups of 20 or more to come out and visit our farm for a private fall tour. We offer a variety of tours throughout the season at varying times. All tours would be scheduled during the week during the daytime hours. The tours are geared to our younger friends with the optimum age group being 5 – 10 year olds. We can acclimate the tour for older groups, but need appropriate time to do so.
APPLE PICKING TOURS
Our apple picking tours take approximately 50 to 60 minutes from start to finish. The children are greeted at their bus, it’s important that the children remain on the bus until asked to disembark to avoid confusion. They are then brought through our farmstand and bakery and shown some of our “behind the scenes” activities including our cold storage facility and some of the equipment used on a daily basis at our farm. Next, the children are brought out to our special events tent and shown our exclusive video on “The Making Of Apple Cider.” After the video, the children are given samples of our delicious cider. Once finished, the children are walked out to one of our apple orchards. After a brief discussion about apples, the children are each given their own bags, which they can fill with all the scrumptious apples they pick. The children are also invited to sample an apple while they are picking. At the completion of the tour, the contact person is given a special coloring book for each of the children to take home.
PUMPKIN PICKING ADVENTURES
Our pumpkin picking adventure will take 45 minutes to an hour from start to finish. The children are met at their bus and introduced to Jaswell’s Farm. They are then brought through our farmstand and bakery and shown some of our “behind the scenes” activities. Next, the children are brought out to our special events tent and shown an exclusive video on “How Pumpkins Grow.” During the video, our special guests are given a cookie and a cup of our fresh pressed and pasteurized apple cider. After the video finishes, the children are loaded onto our hay wagon for their adventure to the pumpkin patch. When the wagon reaches the field, the children disembark and select their own pumpkins to take home. They re-board the Jaswell Express and are returned back to their buses. At the completion of the tour, the contact person is given a special coloring book for each of the children to take home.
Please note: We do not charge the chaperones for our fall tours; however they do not take anything home. The chaperones are here in a supervisory capacity and are here to assist the children. If they wish to purchase items, they are welcome to do so at the end of the tour or return at a more appropriate time.
We are now booking tours for the fall. The apple picking tours start on Tuesday, September 9th and extend through Friday, October 10th. The pumpkin picking adventures start on Wednesday, October 15th and extend through Friday, October 31st. All scheduled fall tours require a deposit to be paid within 7 days of booking. Deposits are non-refundable for any reason other than weather. In the event of in climate weather, we will try to reschedule and if we are unable the deposit will be refunded.
We recommend a chaperone to child ratio of 1 to 5. Historically these are magic numbers for the groups although we encourage parent involvement so the more the merrier! There are space limitations on our pumpkin picking adventure because of the hayride; however we attempt accommodate all. Please call Allison at 401-231-9043 for more information; she is available Monday – Friday 11am – 3pm.
